Ever year with Peter Forrestal comes down to Mount Barker we do a regional wine tasting with local winemakers showcasing our wines. I love it. I learn so much and it is a great opportunity to see your wines up against others and a snapshot of the regions wines. The Riesling of course were a stand out with lots of lemons, limes and sherbet. The Pinot Noirs are a up and coming variety in the this reagion with lots of great aromatic red berries flavours. Shiraz was a stand out with lots of spice and structure and Cabernet's with there dark choc flavours. Galafrey Wines have improved some much over the years and I am so proud that they are now starting to stand out in a crowd.
Followed by a winemaker's dinner that night.
Every year the Mount Barker Wine Producers Invite Peter Forrestal down to Mount Barker to try our wines and meet our winemakers. We have a great, log standing relationship with him. Peter writes for Gourmet Traveller and Scoop magazine just to name a few. We have a dinner at kendenup lodge and opened some aged wines from local Mount Barker producers. My Favourite was the Arcadia 2005 Riesling. We dicussed the Mount Barker Wine region, Peter gave us feedback of individual brands and where he thought the region was best to focus there attention on. A great night for the local wine industry
