RESERVE CHARDONNAY
Our Reserve Chardonnay is an oaked chardonnay. There is a growing trend to make oaked chardonnay only 30% oaked, but what’s the point. We make an unoaked chardonnay, if you want something more fruit driven but if you’re looking for s serious structure style of white wine then the Reserve Chardonnay is that wine. Oaked for 13 months on new French oak. Our Chardonnay grapes are intense with flavours of stone fruit; add the creamy vanilla oak you talking about a great wine which is balanced. The oak doesn't over power the fruit or leave your mouth dry. The oak gives the fruit extra dimension, structure and length. A great winter white.Try with our roast Pork rack and parsnip recipe. UNOAKED CHARDONNAY
Our chardonnay grapes are special for two reasons. One our special Dry Grown vineyard adds intensity to the fruit flavour. Two, our clone of chardonnay is known as Chick and hen. It's called chick and hen because there are big berries and small berries on the same bunch of grapes. These different size berries add different dimension to the wine. The big berries are ripe and full of fruit flavour. The small berries and intense and full of lovely fresh acidity. Together it's like blending on the wine, on the vine. They are a great combination. Commercially it is not a popular clone of chardonnay because although the flavours are awesome and the clone grows well in cool climate areas, they produce small volumes. But here at Galafrey we are interested in flavour not volume. A great fresh fruit driven wine, one of the other things I love about chardonnay it naturally doesn't have high acidity like some other white wines making it more appealing to the palate. No lemony acid here, all stone fruits, apricots and melon with round creaminess and appealing palate. Goes great with Kaffir Lime Roast Chicken recipe. DRY LAND RIESLING
One third of our vineyard is Riesling so it is a big part of what we do. Mount Barker is widely regarded as a great region for Riesling. I am consistently amazed in poor years, when the weather is unpredictable; this variety is a stellar performer, year in year out! It reminds me why this region is well recognized as a great region for Riesling. Galafrey Riesling is lemon and lime style. When it’s young it's like musk sticks and confectionary. When it’s old, it’s like toasty honeyed flavours. Our Riesling can age for 20 yrs or more. Try with our Sashimi Albany Oysters recipe MULLER
Muller Thurgau is a German grape variety; it’s a hybrid of Riesling which is why I suspect it was chosen for this vineyard. With the Mount barker area being well known for Riesling and Muller being regarded as an easy drinking style of wine, add the fact we are cool climate, this unique variety found a home. This is a tropical fruit style of wine and a little bit of sweetness goes great with Asian food. There are rarely any wines that go well with any food that has chilli in it but this one does. Goes well with BBQ Asian chilli prawns and mango salad recipe. SAUVIGNON BLANC
Sure everyone love New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, but remember where Galafrey is, Mount Barker. We have the coldest maximum temperature on average in WA. Need I say more! We are cool climate and this is a cool climate grape variety. This wine is structured with gooseberry characteristics; it’s fresh and fruity with a nice balance of fruit and acidity. Asparagus, Guava and freshly cut grass , a medium bodied style with refined acidity. Try with our potato topped snapper and fennel pies recipes. SAUVIGNON BLANC SEMILLON
Our most popular wine. It’s fresh fruity crisp and clean everything one could want in a wine. The West is well known for the blend SSB and SBS and this wine is no different. A constant star performer, Crunchy lively tropical fruit bomb on the nose with a gentle touch of herbaceous grassiness. Crisp lively acid provides a racy zippy little palate that is great drinking. Terrific intensity, refreshing acidity with touches of guavas, gooseberries. Try with our new Greek salad recipe. |
