Meet the Galafrey Wines Team - Family Winemakers, Premium Western Australian Wines, Mount Barker

Galafrey Wines remains a family-owned business and all wines are grown, nurtured and bottled on the estate. Established by Ian Tyrer (1946-2003)
Galafrey is survived by mother and daughter team, Linda and Kim Tyrer. Nigel Rowe, Kim husband has now joined the team.
Linda, Kim and Nigel maintain a hands-on role to ensure that the Galafrey philosophy is upheld.
Today, Galafrey has twelve hectares under vine consisting of Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Merlot Grapes. We are also growing Muller-Thurgau, a unique white grape variety that produces a light, flavourful, fruity grape that's low in acid.
Galafrey's impressive cellar door boasts breathtaking views of the vines and surrounding bushland. Come and meet Henry, the winery dog, who will greet you at the car park and escort you to the door. And, most importantly, enjoy the taste that is Galafrey Wines.

He looks after our spray program, general maintenance and is the 'gun' on setting up the bottling line. With a love for the land and a love for this family it wasn't long before Nigel become a regular featured at the winery. He loves Shiraz and boost how well it goes with his lamb, if only we ever saw any?? You can often see him at field days and various tastings flying the Galafrey Flag...( and drinking Galafrey Shiraz) |

Bruce - Winery DogBruce, our resident celebrity. His job is keeping the local rabbit and rodent population down and greeting our customers at the car park- just in case they are hiding food in their cars! He is by far the most popular member of our team. Now he has a partner in crime, Jack. The two can often be seen outside playing and enjoying the sweeter side of life. |

Jack Rowe - Future winemakerBorn just before vintage, the days were extra long. Often jack was wheeled down to the vintage pad in his pram, they say the first smells introduced to a child stay with them for life. Well...if that's true this little fellow is going to love wine. He also likes eating grapes, the outdoors, puddles and vegemite. Galafrey is a family owned business and it is because of jack that we do it all. Of course it is all subject to changed as he enters his teenage years. |

Ian Tyrer- Founder and Wine Industry Pioneer 1946-2003Ian Tyrer was a pioneer of the Western Australian Wine Industry and won the Wine Press Club's George Mulgrave award in 2003. Ian was known for his hearty laugh and ginger beard. He was often refered to as the jovial winemaker. The wine 'The Jovial' a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot celebrates his life as the man behind Galafrey Wines. He is sadly missed. Often quoted for his two most famous sayings '....I'm a busy little winemaker!' 'I make wine, to make money, to buy beer!' |
