Ray Jordan Guide 2013

Galafrey Dry Land Riesling 2012
Oh Boy, there's is some seriously intense Riesling in this excellent dry-grown wine. The spicey minerally of the fruit and a piercing intensity cariies with lazar like precision to a very long finish. The subtle floral hints beneath the primary charactors with a touch of stone fruit add complexity to a very good wine. 94 points
Galafrey The Jovial 2004
I can still see that jovial face of the late Ian Tyrer. This wine is a fitting testament to his memory. Its deap and earthy with a true sense of place and full of character like the man himself with dusty oak and savoury fruit characters. A wine that still has cellaring potential. 93 points

'The winery that the late Ian Tyrer began in 1977 is still in very good hands
with his wife Linda and daughter Kim keeping up the tradition he started of
total commitment to the wine industry and this vineyard. The vineyard
continues to be a source of great pride and focus to achieve flavour
intensity and regional characters.' Ray Jordan

Galafrey Dry Land Reserve Riesling 2010 These dry-grown Riesling from Galafrey can be really tight and steely when young, though this tends to conceal the intensity of the fruit within. This one has a wonderful purity of expression, with spotlessly clean lines and a fine precise acid. really promising wine for some cellaring 91/100 Prefect with freshly shucked oysters. Galafrey Reserve Dry Grown Shiraz 2006 This was a fairly tough year in WA because it was so cool during vintage, yet this savoury, earthy shiraz from old vines in the Great Southern has come up trumps. Seamless and smooth, the nose shows some black peper and spice, while the palate is incrediably deep, though retaining some good Great Southern effortless finesse. 95/100 Prefect with rare eye fillet. SBS Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2010 Fruity example of this standard WA blend. It's fruity with a crunchy passion fruit and tart gooseberry influence. Quite restrained yet with admirable palate persistence. 88/100 |

Dry Grown Merlot 2008 'No shortage of rich dark fruits in this powerful Merlot. It shows that this variety in the right places can be a good straight varietal wine. Love the seamless, smooth textured palate and the deeply concentrated flavours. They are beautifully held with ripe fine tannins and excellent oak integration. 90/100 cellar 7 yrs. |

2009 Dry Land Riesling ' Another cracking Riesling from the dry grown riesling vineyard. Opens with intense spicey pear and lime character on the nose. The mouth-puckering dry palate has a piercing acidity supporting intense and lively fruit. A very fine riesling style that has great aging potential.' 93 points 2009 Sauvignon Blanc " This is made as a quite restrained style yet within its tight structure there is plenty of intense and lively tropical fruit flavours. Has a dusty herbaceousness, but mostly that tropical character that prevades. Acid is fine and delicate and rally sustains the finish. Very nice wine ' 87/100 |
