Tasting Notes

Deep, dense plum in colour, this cool-climate Shiraz opens with lifted aromas of black pepper and spice layered over subtle vanilla French oak. The palate is medium-bodied, supple and beautifully balanced, combining dark berry fruit with savoury spice and fine tannins. Elegant rather than overpowering, it delivers impressive depth and complexity with a long, smooth finish that is characteristic of Great Southern Shiraz.

Vineyard

Fruit is sourced from our 49-year-old, 12-hectare dry-grown vineyard in Mount Barker, Great Southern. Grown without irrigation on ancient gravelly loam soils, these low-yielding vines produce small berries packed with concentrated flavour and natural tannin. The region's cool climate and extended ripening season encourage exceptional balance, structure and varietal expression.

Vintage Comments

The 2022 vintage commenced around two weeks later than recent seasons, following a wet winter and spring before periods of intense summer heat and strong easterly winds. Cooler autumn conditions encouraged slow ripening, allowing patient vineyard management to produce fruit with excellent colour, flavour concentration and fine tannin structure.

Winemaking

This Shiraz is crafted from both mature old-vine blocks and younger vineyard plantings, combining depth, complexity and freshness. The fruit was harvested at optimum ripeness, fermented on skins to maximise colour and flavour extraction, then matured in quality French oak for a minimum of two years.

The result is a harmonious and elegant Shiraz that reflects the unique terroir of Mount Barker—rich in flavour, beautifully structured and highly drinkable, with the capacity to cellar gracefully.
