Tasting Notes
A distinctive blend of 60% Riesling, 25% Müller-Thurgau and 15% Barrel Fermented Riesling, this wine showcases both freshness and complexity.
Müller-Thurgau, a rare variety in Australia and traditionally grown in Germany, is a cross between Riesling and Madeleine Royale. It contributes delicate tropical notes of papaya, guava and exotic fruit blossom, along with a soft, textural palate. The Riesling component brings vibrant citrus, floral aromatics and crisp natural acidity, while the barrel-fermented Riesling adds subtle creaminess and depth.
The result is an elegant, aromatic wine with layers of tropical fruit, citrus blossom and minerality, finishing fresh, balanced and beautifully textured.
Vineyard
Fruit was sourced from our dry-grown, 12-hectare vineyard in Mount Barker, Great Southern. Established more than four decades ago, these mature vines rely solely on natural rainfall, producing low yields of intensely flavoured fruit.
Planted on ancient gravelly loam soils and benefiting from the region's cool-climate conditions, the vineyard consistently delivers wines with exceptional purity, concentration and natural balance.
Vintage Comments
The 2025 vintage extended over 40 days, with reduced yields helping manage the fast-paced harvest. Although rainfall events were significant, they were infrequent, and the season remained relatively dry following the previous year's heat.
Poor flowering during November further lowered yields, but the resulting fruit displayed excellent concentration and flavour. Riesling in particular achieved outstanding natural balance, suggesting a vintage of exceptional quality with excellent ageing potential.
Winemaking
This blend was crafted to highlight the unique qualities of Müller-Thurgau while celebrating the renowned Riesling character of Mount Barker. The inclusion of barrel-fermented Riesling adds texture, complexity and subtle oak influence without overpowering the vibrant fruit.
Through careful vineyard management and sensitive winemaking, the wine captures expressive aromatics, freshness and a true sense of place, resulting in a lively, well-balanced and highly drinkable cool-climate white.
